I got some more feedback on my Minted design in the comment section on today's entry of Katie Armour's the neo-traditionalist blog (co-founder of Matchbook), where you can enter to win a $150 gift certificate for goodies on Minted:

Thanks to the team at Matchbook for sharing on facebook =) Even if I don't make any sales, I'm still incredibly happy I participated in the contest because it pushed me to finally take the leap into design.

Happy Valentine's Day

Excerpt from an email, dated April 6th, 2007, from I.S.:
That's how I feel around you.
Ironic -- maybe slightly -- that only a word which doesn't exist canbe used to describe feelings which do so strongly.
Wishing everyone a happy day of love <3

My design was featured in a minted ad on the Toronto Sun website! I.S.'s sister captured the screen shot below for me. It totally made my day weekend. =)

For Sale

My design is finally up for sale on minted! If you check out the bar on the right, you will find a link and a 10% off coupon code for my specific design.
After I saw it online this morning, I've just been swimming with joy! And despite some things getting changed (fonts, capitalization of everything, color pairing with the aqua, addition of some wording), my overall design concept is still all there, so I have to give props to whoever had the task of polishing up my work at minted! My favorite part of the whole suite: the fish swimming away on the backer and on the other information cards. I have to give credit to Miss J. for inspiring that design aspect! ;)

You know how happy I look in my profile picture? That's me. Right now.

I take it back

After playing around some more, I decided that just the leaf was a much better simplified logo than what I came up with yesterday.

What I've been up to (part 4)

Here is my latest work on the logo for SSV's EcoCloud. I cooled the colors down from what I had originally, which I think I really like. We'll see what the team thinks. As for what's showing above, I took what I had from the existing logo to make a condensed version for what I envision them using for the browser icon and such things. I'm still playing around with it though 'cause I'm not entirely happy with the curve coming off the "e" and I'm not sure how I feel about the logo not having any cloud aspect to it.

I love... (#13)

I love bread. Like, a lot. I could eat bread all day for all meals. So I'm quite enjoying this new-found bread-making skill!  mmmmm...

Here is the recipe I used, with the exception of adding rosemary and minced garlic to the 2Tbs of oil that's incorporated into the dough. I think next time I will use more rosemary & garlic though. I forgot to dimple it to give it the true look of focaccia and it didn't turn out quite rectangular, but whatever. It's delicious.

Not mine. The 老公's =)

As usual, I was at a loss as to what to get him for his birthday, a milestone-of-a-birthday at that. But as usual, to keep in theme with his low-key personality, I just put together a little box of "favorites", as in his favorite snacks. I was in such a rush to put this gift together with everything else that I've been working on that at first I wasn't sure I'd have time to wrap it at all, so I thought of illustrating his gifts and present him with a small card along with the illustrated cards, as inspired by Brynn at paper tastebuds (though MUCH less awesome considering all I did was raid trader joe's), but then I ended up putting it all in a box anyway since I had more time than I thought. Thus, the cards ended up being redundant, but I still gave them to him anyway in case he ever feels inspired to start a scrapbook. haha. Right. Anyway, I digress.

Over the last year I've been obsessed with everything kraft paper so this year I decided to just go with black on crisp white. I ended up putting everything together late last night while he was busy with a work thing.

Here's the front of the card I drew (I digitized everything in illustrator):

And the series of illustrated gifts:
I usually draw a "draft" version of something I'm hand-drawing and giving away, but I was in such a rush that I just free-handed everything on the first go, so I'm quite impressed with myself. Drawing on paper is still so much nicer... I think I may need to buy myself a scanner so that I can properly upload my illustrations (as opposed to taking a photo of them etc). The tablet still feels foreign after a pretty solid month of use. Sigh.
